DNO Hradec Kralové DNO is an open association of people who want to create something, either in the field of the theatre, music or art. The theatre activities of DNO started in the year 2000 with a performance of Variations on the Famous Theme of Cyrano. Jirka Jelínek came from the theatre “Jesličky” (The Manger) of Hradec Kralové and together with Tomáš Komárek composed a separate theatrical project. Since then the DNO performed the following stage productions: Dalibor, Rychlé šípy, Baj-baj, Variace na slavné téma Cyrano, Rybstory and is preparing 4+1. Only two of the plays: Rychlé šípy and Dalibor are reproduced performances at the Jesličky theatre. DNO participated successfully in a number of theatre festivals with its original performances (Puppeteering Chrudim 2000, 2001; Jirásek’s Hronov 2001; One Flew Over the Puppeteer´s Nest 2001; Cinderella Festival in Rakovník 2001…) _ther activities of DNO include the “thematic exhibitions” in Hradec Kralové held about 4 times a year. Next to the exhibition on a common theme, a theatre and band are presented in the evening, predominantly composed of amateur groups not usually mentioned by the media.. This makes for a most fertile ground where, through common creativity, new contacts are being established and the cultural awareness developed. The DNO Theatre gladly participates also in other activities: e.g. Islands of Unrest in Pardubice, Drakiad for Children in Rašovice, Jizerská Padesátka in Mělník.
The most successful title of DNO is the Variations on the Famous Theme of Cyrano a staging interesting because it combines normal” drama” with a technically and creatively well conceived “theatre of gloves”.This is actually a variation which maintains the basic outline of the story of some scenes of Rostand’s play, without trying to reproduce the story of Cyrano in all its aspects. Although all productions of the DNO company so far have been a most pleasant experience for the audience, the Variations on the Famous Theme of Cyrano most definitely confirms the quality of the company – as here the borderline between an amusing combination of comic and moving scenes and the integral shape has been successfully overcome. This is certainly not the rule even in the case of the most prestigious companies.
